Shirley Ann Douglas, 80, passed away February 27, 2017 at Cornerstone Hospice in Tavares, Florida. She was born July 27, 1936 to the late Alex and Erna (Rathke) King.
Shirley was a homemaker who worked for King Interior Decorating and was the first woman to work for the Dekalb County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy Sheriff in Auburn, Indiana. She was a member of the Eagles and the Moose.
Eventually health reasons brought her to Florida, where she started her own business which she was running until her death. Shirley loved her family and spent her life devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very active in their lives and was a Eustis little league volunteer from 1991-1996. She was the cornerstone of her family and loved by all who came into contact with her. She is survived by 6 children: Jean Hirschy, Sonny Carper, Michael Carper, Greg Douglas, Vicki Douglas, and Phyllis McCracken, and proceeded in death by 1 daughter, Kris Ann Douglas. She has 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 3 great great-grandchildren. She also has many other "adopted grandchildren" and was known to many as grandma.
A celebration of life will be held at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #4335 in Eustis on Thursday, March 2 from 3-6 pm and then she will make her final journey home to Indiana for a graveside memorial and gathering at a date to be determined.

We are all saddened beyond words at the loss of “Sis” …. I have learned that grief never ends … But it changes. It is a passage …. Not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness … It is the price of love. Grief only exists where love first lived. Still , my heart is broken . And I know yours is too. She will be missed greatly …..I wish I could take away all the pain and sorrow that comes from losing her.
