Rosa “Lydia” Rodriguez Montesino, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went to join her beloved Father Jesus Christ on January 14, 2017. She was born to Maria Ocasio and Tiburcio Montesino in Corozal, Puerto Rico on March 26, 1936. Lydia was one of 13 children, Iris Montesino, Maria Isabel Montesino, Rafael Montesino, Hilda Esther Montesino, Edna Montesino, Mirta Montesino, Rosaura Montesino (deceased), Rosaura Montesino, Angel Luis Montesino, Ana Elba Montesino, Eudes Montesino and Edwin Montesino (deceased). Lydia was married to Bernardo Rodriguez for 51 years. She had three children, George Marrero (deceased), Vic Marrero and Eileen Ramos and a “second daughter,” Selena Castellanos who she also raised.
Lydia worked as a cook for Florida Hospital an impressive 27 years, retiring in 2000. Lydia was one of the kindest, most giving women you could ever meet. Lydia epitomized the word matriarch. To say the entire family is devastated is an understatement. Her entire life was spent in service to others and most notably her family. Everything about her was about doing to for others and we should all strive to use her life as a guidepost for reflecting Christ’s love for others.
Lydia enjoyed her novelas, gardening and spending time with friends and family. Over the past few years she was able to enjoy cruising with her family, she really loved travel and went back to her special island Puerto Rico whenever she could.
Lydia is survived by husband Bernardo Rodriguez, son Victor “Vic” Marrero, daughter Eileen Ramos. Grandchildren: Stephanie Marrero, Nicole Marrero, Anthony Adorno, and Jaileen Adorno. Great Grandchildren: Aiden Thompson, Ethan Thompson, Jaxon Thompson, Trenton Carrier, Ashton Carrier, and Aleanna Adorno.
