I first met Mattie in the early 1990’s while visiting my sister, Kathee Pierce, who had just become next door neighbor to her in Apopka. Mattie and Tom embraced Kathee and her husband, Dave, and then their son Noah when he was born. They became fast friends for all of the years since and any time that I visited Kathee through the years, it also included a visit to Mattie. She was a wonderful kind woman and will be missed greatly by all who loved her, including Kathee. My prayers are for comfort and the peace that only God can give at these times for Mattie’s family and all who love her.

I became friends with Mattie while she was living at Brookdale. Soon after I became a volunteer, I learned how much Mattie enjoyed playing bingo! She rarely missed a Wednesday when I was calling the numbers and we always shared a chuckle or a little family news. Once when I commented on how nicely she always was dressed (including hair and make-up), she responded with “My daddy always said even an old barn looks good with a fresh coat of paint.” It was a privilege to get to know Miss Mattie and become her friend. She will be missed very much. Please accept my condolences.

I remember this sweet lady from when I was a young girl and attending the Rock Springs Baptist Church. She and my mother, Selma Crawford, became good friends, and now they are good friends in Heaven. God bless your family……always!
