Born to Rosa and Ralph Hartley, and survived by sister Lena. He was a loving and devoted husband to Gloria Hartley for over 30 years who he cherished every day. He was a wonderful and loving father to Glenda Osborn (deceased), Cherylyn “Cher” Douglas (Jack), Denise “Dee Dee” Delatore (Alex), Bonnie Berger (Adam), and grandfather to Laura Hirst, Alex Cam, Brooke Berger and Amanda Berger. He was great grandfather to Ty Jones and Sean Hirst.
Jack entered the US Navy at the age of 16 and served a total of 20 years, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. During his service to his country he served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He also graduated from Jones College in Orlando. Jack retired from the City of Orlando after 15 years of working in the Fleet Management Department. In 1985 he was a training specialist for Fountain Fresh and remained there for 5 years. In 1989 he worked for the City of Apopka, Florida as the Superintendent of the Solid Waste Department. In 1998 Jack retired from the City of Apopka.
After retiring Jack and his lovely wife Gloria enjoyed traveling the world by RV’ing or by Cruise Ship. They traveled much of the United States joining up with other military couples along the way making countless new wonderful friends that remained close for many years. Gloria and Jack also traveled throughout Europe by cruise ship and car making many life long memories from astounding locations such as England, France, Italy, Greece and Turkey.
Jack loved to fish, play golf, work on jigsaw puzzles, and collect tools (especially screwdrivers). Above all he was a religious man that loved God and he lived his life to the fullest as a good man. He is now off to his new adventures as we are sure he is using his favorite words…

My deepest sympathy to the family. I have fond memories of Jack during our days with the City of Apopka Public Services Department. Jack was instrumental in the implementation of the first recycling program for the City. He was loyal and dedicated to his job. He will truly be missed. God Bless!
