Devon Cory Hicks, 33, of Altamonte Springs, passed away on January 21, 2021.
Devon was born in Winter Park, FL to Dan and Dori Hicks on May 12, 1987. He attended Winter Springs High School and studied at Seminole State College for his GED.
At 18 months old, Devon fought Meningitis caused from numerous ear infections. After overcoming that serious illness, he seemed to have lingering health and learning issues.
At 6’6” tall and weighing 350lbs, he was a Gentle Giant! Devon was young at heart and enjoyed every birthday party or family get together. He always had a smile on his face. He often was the one to push to go out to eat with as many family members and/or friends as possible.
Devon loved his food! Unfortunately, it wasn’t always the healthiest. Fast food was his vice. He never smoked or drank or made his parents worry where he was or who he was with. He was very much a home body and was content spending time on his computer playing video games.
He also loved playing cards. Devon would play cards with his nieces and nephews for hours, making them laugh along the way! He loved animals and had many pets over the years. Every night, he would lay with Daisy, the family dog.
As far as his career, Devon worked for Kohls for over 10 years unloading trucks and stocking. His dream job would have been to work on computers. He was self taught and that was his true passion. He could take a computer apart and put it back together! He was your go to guy for any problems with electronics.
Sadly, 3 years ago Devon’s health issues started to catch up to him and in January of 2020, he unfortunately had to start on dialysis for his kidney disease. Over the next year, the kidney disease took a huge toll on his body, especially that big heart of his.
Tragically, God called him home on January 21, 2021. God must have needed a great big angel and thought Devon had suffered enough in his earthly body. The doctors had done all they could and said Devon fought more than any average person could have.
We know Devon is playing his loud music, with lots of bass boosting, in Heaven and playing with whatever animals are with him. He will be greatly, greatly missed!
Rest In Peace our Gentle Giant!
Devon is survived by his parents Dan and Dori Hicks, brother Scott, sister Danai (John), brother Dalton (Heidi), nieces Taylor Hicks, Gabriela Latorre, Callie Mae Hicks, nephews Shawn Hicks, Sebastian Latorre, Jeremiah Latorre, grandmothers Clemmie Hicks and Winnie Pomeroy and cousin/best friend Matthew Pomeroy.

I knew Devon while never having the chance to meet him in person I had known him for over 6 years. We played video games together alot over 6 years shared uncountable laughs and hours of joy. I am sorry to have just recently learned that he has been called home. I offer my deepest condolences to those who survive him and he will not be forgotten. I first met Devon on Need For Speed Most Wanted 2012 back around 2014; I’ve known him as y3ay3a. We spend hours playing the different PC games we had. Pulling off amazing stunts, having close finishes in racing games, making jokes about each other, life, and always full of laughs. He was super computer smart. He could do all kinds of things I would never understand. Rest easy my brother, I’ll see you again.
