Robert David "Jack" Rudd, 82, of Apopka, Florida, passed away on October 25th, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and holding the hand of his devoted wife. A proud Navy veteran, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, Jack lived a life defined by hard work, duty, and unwavering love for his family.

Jack was born on May 20th, 1944, in Tazwell, Virginia, to Edward and Mary Louise Rudd. He learned the value of hard work at an early age while working on the family farm. He later followed his family into employment at the Bata Shoe Factory in Aberdeen, MD where he developed the strong work ethic that would serve him throughout his life.

Answering the call to serve his country, Jack enlisted in the United States Navy, beginning a military career that spanned twenty years. Through dedication, hard work, and leadership, he rose through the ranks to Chief Yeoman (YNC), earning the distinguished title of Chief Petty Officer-an achievement that reflected his commitment to duty and the respect he earned from his fellow sailors.

Jack spent years at sea, with his final duty assignment aboard the aircraft carrier USS Independence (CV-62). During his Navy career, he also served during the Vietnam era and participated in Operation End Sweep, the mission to clear mines from North Vietnamese coastal waters and inland waterways following the war.

Jack's military decorations and awards included the Vietnam Service Medal, Navy Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (three awards), and four Good Conduct Awards. He retired honorably from active naval service and transferred to the Fleet Reserve on June 1, 1983.

Following his Navy retirement, Jack made Apopka, FL his home, where he continued his commitment to hard work and service. He spent another twenty years working for Orange County, Florida, before retiring.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mary Louise Rudd; his brothers, Edward Rudd Jr., James Cecil Rudd and Billy Rudd; and his son, Robert Rudd Jr.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Donna, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage-a lifelong partnership built on love, loyalty, and commitment. He also leaves behind his children, Tammy Laugen (Steve) and John (Danny) Rudd (Heather); his granddaughters, Jacqueline Yeomans (Johnnie), Victoria Taafe (Mike), and Katherine St John (Devin); his grandson, Adrian Rudd; eight cherished great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Above all, Jack treasured his family, both immediate and extended. His wit, warm smile, steadfast character, and love for those closest to him will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A celebration of life will be held at Loomis Funeral Home (Apopka, FL) on November 21st, 2026, at 2:00. Military honors will be rendered in recognition of Jack's honorable service to his country.
