In Loving Memory of Pat McKay

Patricia “Pat” Ann (Noffsinger) McKay passed away on August 5, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith and love. Pat was born in Gaylord, Michigan, daughter of Charles W. and Miriam (Gould) Noffsinger on April 15, 1935.

Pat was just ten years old when the clarinet became part of her life. Practicing often led her to consider her clarinet her best friend along with her piano. She graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1953 where she was part of the marching band and went on to earn a master’s degree in music at the University of Michigan in 1959. After graduating, Pat taught third, fifth and sixth grade in the Belleville school district from 1960-1988. She also taught for a couple years in Florida after her retirement. She was an accomplished clarinetist playing in the Orlando Concert Band from its beginning in 1989 until recently.

On October 19, 1985, Pat married the love of her life, Gordon W. McKay. Although Gordon was her senior by 19 years, they spent 32 years together. After Gordon’s death Pat kept his memory alive by sharing “Gordon anecdotes” with everyone she met.

Pat was active in the Orlando congregation of Community of Christ. She was an ordained minister. Her faith, and her church family were very important to her. She was sharing her testimony and her music throughout her life, giving her final sermon at age 91.

Besides music and church, Pat was an avid reader and sports fan. She especially followed her alma mater, the University of Michigan. Television was very important to her, but mainly because she didn’t want to miss any games on the Big Ten Network.

Pat is survived by three siblings; Bob (Nancy), Sharon, and Tom Noffsinger; sister-in-law Gloria Noffsinger and son-in-law Bill Newton; three grandchildren, Matt Newton (Brenda), Aaron Newton (Debbie), Sarah (McKay) Lang (Michael); six great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Charlie and Miriam Noffsinger; her husband Gordon McKay; her brother Richard Noffsinger; and her stepchildren Gordon McKay, Jr. and Pam (McKay) Newton.

Pat had a very positive outlook on life and truly believed in the enduring principle “Worth of all Persons.” She lived a full and happy life and leaves behind not only her family but many friends that she considered family. She will be missed by all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Orlando Community of Christ, 1006 Clay Street, Winter Park, FL 32789 in Pat’s name. A Celebration of Life will be held later this year at the Orlando Community of Christ.
