It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Lucilda Edwards (90), who died peacefully on March 22, 2024. She was born on the 2nd of June, 1933 in Hampshire, St. Catherine, Jamaica, W.I., and was a beautiful God-fearing woman. Upon retirement from a fulfilling nursing career, she and her husband Doriel, relocated to the sunshine of Apopka, FL, leaving behind the cold winters of Brooklyn, NY, where they resided for over 30 years. Lucille or Lue, as she is affectionately known, was always loyal to family and friends, and would often start a great story with “Let me give you this joke…”, and if you asked for advice, she would start with, “The Bible says…”. To say she will be deeply missed is an understatement. Lucilda will be remembered for her beautiful smile, brilliant mind, wonderful guidance, dedication to those whom she loved, indomitable spirit, resolute honesty, and unwavering belief in the gospel.
She is survived by her son Owen Edwards (Olga), daughter Arlene Edwards, grandchildren, Candice Edwards Wallace (Darryle), Samantha Rodriguez, Ariana LaCue, Aidan and Amelia Edwards; her great-granddaughter Taylor Edwards and great-grandsons, Daniel and Gabriel Wallace. She is predeceased by her husband Doriel Edwards (2004), son Noel Evans (2020), sisters Hazel Brown (2002) and Myrtle Sherwood (2016), all of whom we know lovingly greeted her in Heaven. Our greatest joy can now be found in our fond memories of her, and we can truly say she lived a long, beautiful and well-traveled life. Job well done, Lue, you will remain in all of our hearts until we see you again.
