Michael Daniel Purcell, 86, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Michael was born on May 17, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Daniel R. and Margaret S. Purcell, who preceded him in death. He grew up in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. He lived a life defined by dedication to his family, quiet strength, and enduring values that shaped generations.
Michael graduated from Carson Long Military Academy in Bloomfield, Pennsylvania, and later served in management positions within the hotel industry. He eventually transitioned to a career with Georgia-Pacific in Orlando, Florida. Mike retired in 2003 and enjoyed his retirement years surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra A. Purcell, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. Michael and Sandy recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary with family. He was a proud and devoted father to his son, Dan Purcell, and daughter-in-law, Kacelle Purcell. Michael's legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Sydney E. Purcell and Kevin M. Purcell, who brought him immense pride and joy.
Michael is also survived by his sister-in-law, Peggy Coleman and her husband, Estil; his niece, Sara Helmadollar and her husband, Rick; his nephew, Brian Coleman and his wife, Jade; his nieces, Jessica Slone and Jillian Slone; his nephews, Jason Slone, Randy Fletcher and his wife, Bonita, and Ricky Fletcher; his sister-in-law, Loweda Fletcher; and his nephew, Chris Purcell and his wife, Beth.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph "Buddy" Purcell, and sister-in-law, Judy Purcell; his parents-in-law, Monroe and Ollie Slone; and his brothers-in-law, Jack Slone and his wife, Jennifer; Don Fletcher and his wife, Eunice; and Pete Fletcher.
Michael will be remembered for his love for Jesus Christ, his unwavering commitment to his family, his humility, his steady presence, and the example he set through a life well lived. His memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Oviedo City Church, located at 300 West State Road 434, Oviedo, Florida 32765. A reception will follow at the same venue.
