Michael Dennis “Mike” Madawi, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away at the age of 70 in Clermont, Florida, on April 15, 2025, due to injuries he sustained in a hospital fall. Born on May 17, 1954 in North Kona, Hawaii, Mike was the third son of Pedro Juan and Ellen Kalalani Madawi after four daughters.
Mike grew up in Hawaii and was a proud 1972 graduate of Hilo High School. His lifelong passion for music was evident, from his days as a high school band member, to being part of the professional Hawaiian band “Naturally”, to his active involvement in various praise groups and dedicated service as a choir director for Kaumana Baptist Church in Hilo, Hawaii.
On April 22, 1978, Mike married the love of his life, Julie Ann McCready, embarking on a devoted partnership that spanned over 47 years. Together, they raised four sons: Matthew, Adam, Lucas and Jacob. Mike’s greatest pride and joy were his children and his seven grandchildren: Peyton, Elle, Chance, Kailani, Colin, Leilani and Emma Madawi.
Throughout his life, Mike resided in various cities, including Honaunau and Hilo, Hawaii; Seattle and Lynnwood, Washington; and ultimately, Clermont, Florida. Despite his travels, Hawaii remained his favorite vacation destination.
Mike was a man of remarkable character, known for his kindness, generosity, patience, drive, resourcefulness, perseverance, and flexibility. He possessed an infectious laugh that brightened every room he entered. Beyond his family, Mike was immensely proud of his professional endeavors as an entrepreneur, including Madawi and Associates and Smooth Musical Entertainment. His hobbies included music, fishing and traveling.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Pedro Juan and Ellen Kalalani Madawi, and his sisters; Elaine (Siitis) Liilii, Beatrice (Henry) Cho, Barbara Jane, and Yvonne, along with their spouses. He is survived by his devoted wife, Julie Madawi; his sons, Matthew (Amber) Madawi, Adam Madawi, Lucas (Michelle) Madawi, and Jacob (Brooke) Madawi; his cherished grandchildren; and his brothers, Cliff (Annette) Madawi and Glenn (Beverly) Madawi. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will dearly miss him.
Mike lived by the principles embodied in his favorite sayings, “It Is What It Is” and “God Is In Control”, reflecting his steadfast faith in God and his resilient spirit. He has a quiet strength that brought a calm presence and peace to others. His legacy of love, music, and unwavering dedication to his family will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
