Michael Joseph Awalt, 76, passed away on September 29, 2026 at 9:40pm peacefully in his home.
Born in Denver, Colorado, and raised in Mobile, Alabama, Mike eventually made his home in Mount Plymouth, Florida, where he spent his time living with his daughter and her family.
Mike was a proud Air Force veteran and a man who lived life with curiosity, adventure, and an incredible love for the people and animals around him. He enjoyed scuba diving, line dancing, Civil War reenactments, and cheering on his Florida Gators. But more than anything, he loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy, the love of his life. His love for her was a bond he carried with him every day until the end.
Mike is survived by his only child, Stacey Dwyer, and his two grandchildren, Rilynn and Colton Cain.
But to tell the story of Mike, you have to tell the story of his daughter.
Stacey was, and always will be, a daddy’s girl through and through.
Her dad wasn’t simply someone who watched her grow up. He grew alongside her. He spent his life by her side helping raise her children, sharing adventures, laughing through the ordinary days, and being there for the moments that mattered. They did life together. She was the person he could count on, the person who was simply there, and he was one of the greatest constants in her life.
He wasn’t just her father.
He was her home.
And while losing a parent is heartbreaking, losing a father who has been beside you for your entire life leaves a kind of emptiness that words cannot explain.
He will be remembered for his generous heart, his mischievous sense of humor, his deep love for animals, his adventurous spirit, and, of course, his unforgettable phrase, “mildewing and molding.”
And for his daughter, there will always be one simple truth: No matter how old she was, she was always his daddy’s girl.
At this time, there will be no funeral service. The family asks for privacy and time to grieve together.
In lieu of flowers, a GoFundMe is being established to help the family with expenses. Information will be provided separately.
Rest peacefully, Dad.
Thank you for a lifetime of loving me, standing beside me, and being my dad.
I love you. Always.
