Julia Adeline McVay

August 15, 1933 — May 20, 2025

Julia Adeline McVay, a devoted servant of Christ, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully went to be with the Lord on May 20, 2025, in Apopka, Florida, at the age of 91.

Born on August 15, 1933, in Charleston, South Carolina, to Allen and Laura Platt, Julia’s life was a reflection of unwavering faith, enduring love, and humble service. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age, and her favorite verse, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16), guided her steps throughout her life.

Julia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Curtis McVay; her son, David McVay; her parents, Allen and Laura Platt; her sisters, Esther Bowman, Bernice Hooks, Violet Fleschman, Linda Durrance, and Laura Belle Woods; her brothers, Rutledge Platt and Charles Platt; and two grandchildren, Christopher Berger and Sarah Berger.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Julia Anne Howell (Paul); her grandchildren: Kelly Bonnell (Trevor), Laura Caperton (Jason), Curtis McVay (Erin), Michelle Bryant, Stephanie Gregory (Matthew), Michael Howell (Jessica), and Phillip Howell (Amanda); along with 21 treasured great-grandchildren, and Brothers-Denzle Platt(Shirley Jean) and Raymond Platt(Shirley Faye)

A devoted homemaker and nurturing mother, Julia also served in various roles throughout her life, including working as a Candy Striper in a hospital in Chicago and later at Nelson Roses. She was also a proud and devoted Navy wife, faithfully supporting her husband Curtis during his years of military service and keeping the family strong and grounded while he was away at sea.

Her true calling, however, was in loving and raising her family and serving her Lord through her church. She was active in the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU), the church choir, and numerous other ministries. She loved her church family and dedicated her life to living out her faith in both word and deed.

Julia’s favorite hymn, “Great Is Thy Faithfulness,” was a reflection of her deep trust in God’s promises. Her gentle spirit, strong faith, and joyful heart will be remembered by all who knew her.

A celebration of Julia’s life and legacy of faith will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Wekiwa Springs Baptist Church, 584 N. Wekiwa Springs Road, Apopka, FL 32712.
