John Larry Blackwelder went to be with Jesus on April 23, 2025 at the wonderful age of 82.

Larry was born in Alachua County, Florida on May 23, 1942, to Arlis and Ina Blackwelder. The family would move to Apopka, Florida where Larry grew up and attended School.

Larry had 3 siblings Marlene (passed), Norma and Don. Larry is survived by his wife Janice, two children, daughter Jana ‘Leigh’ and son Darin (married to Carrie). He was blessed with 4 grandchildren (John, McKenzie, Alix and Ryan).

When Larry was in H.S. he received an Athletic ‘Letter’ in 4 sports (Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track). Larry graduated from The Apopka H.S. class of 1960. He would go on to attend University of Tennessee where he graduated with a degree in Banking and Finance.

Larry enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1965. He graduated from Parris Island and finalized his training at Camp Lejeune, NC. He served for 6 years in the Marine Crops’ Reserves. In 1966 Larry married the ‘Love’ of his life, the Former Janice Fly. They had celebrated 58 years of marriage when he departed this world.

After graduating from college, Larry returned to Florida and worked in Kissimmee until he moved back to Apopka in 1969. He served as Vice President of the State Bank of Apopka.

Larry assisted his father-in-law in the Nursery Business and served as Treasurer of First Baptist Church of Apopka for 30 years. Larry was an active member of First Baptist Church of Apopka most of His life. He served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and numerous Committee positions. He was the Administrator of the church on two different occasions. Larry was an avid reader and enjoyed sports but especially playing and watching Football.

Services will be held on Saturday May 10 at First Baptist Church of Apopka 441 S Highland Ave Apopka 32703 (1:00 pm Visitation, 2:00 pm Celebration of Life).
