Joann Maria Pomeroy, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on April 25, 2025, in Orlando, Florida, at the age of 90. Born on August 26, 1934, in Lone Tree, Iowa, Joann lived a life defined by faith, kindness, and a deep love for others.
Joann attended Iowa Teachers College (UNI) and the University of Iowa. She went on to touch countless young lives as a devoted second-grade teacher. Her love for children extended beyond the classroom through years of volunteer work with the Girl Scouts of America.
In 1961, Joann married the love of her life, Glen Pomeroy. Together, they built a home grounded in love, faith, and family. A devoted Christian, Joann was active in her church and Bible study groups and lived her faith with humility, grace, and joy. She had a special gift for making others feel seen and valued—whether through a warm hug or a silly joke.
Joann’s greatest joy was her family. She is lovingly remembered by her children, John (Karen) Pomeroy and Ann (Ralph) Nenna; her cherished grandchildren, Jacob, Buddy, and Jackson; and her dear sister, Judy. She also leaves behind many treasured nieces and nephews, all of whom felt the warmth of her boundless love.
She now rejoins her husband Glen; her parents, Coyt and Velma Westfall; and her siblings Gerald, Kenneth, Bernard, and Jean, who preceded her in death.
A memorial service celebrating Joann’s life will be held on July 12 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lone Tree American Legion Hall, 300 N Devoe St, Lone Tree, IA 52755.
Joann’s legacy is one of compassion, faith, and joyful generosity. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.
