Gracie Juanita Gillis (Evans), age 88, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Born on September 25, 1937 in Apopka, Florida, Gracie lived a long and meaningful life rooted in faith, family, and love. Throughout her life, Gracie Juanita was known for being a devoted Christian whose faith guided every aspect of her journey. Her unwavering devotion to God shaped the way she loved others - with compassion, patience, and grace. She found purpose in caring for those around her and took pride in being a steadfast presence for her family.
Gracie was a devoted wife to her late husband, Buddy Gillis. Together they built a life centered around their shared values and deep commitment to their family. She was a loving mother to her three children: Glenda Griffin (Patrick) of Oviedo, Florida; Trudy Gillis-Maerz of South Carolina; and Rodney Gillis (Jane) of Leesburg, Florida. Her nurturing spirit extended to her grandchildren-Scott Napierata (Jennifer) of Sanford, Florida; Richard Napierata (Samantha) of Oviedo, Florida; Jessica Tucker (Tony) of Geneva, Florida; Amanda Heselius (Billy) of South Carolina; Brandon Gillis (Daytona) of Georgia; and Brandy Morales (Edgar) of Sanford, Florida - as well as her step-grandchildren Stephanie Roa (Migui), Tyler Griffin of Oviedo, Florida; and Scotty Simmons (Tori) of Georgia. Gracie's legacy continues through her 18 great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister Katherine Osteen and half-brother Jerry Evans, both of Alabama. Gracie held them close in her heart and prayed for them daily.
Gracie was preceded in death by her beloved grandson Christopher Avery; her parents Samuel and Maggie Evans; sisters Johnnie May Stiles, Roberta Garrett, Louise Hudson, Agnes Lovell, Billie Witworth; brothers Frank Evans and Paul Evans; and half-brother John Evans.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. May the legacy she leaves behind bring comfort to those who mourn her passing. A funeral will be held on October 9, 2025 at Loomis Funeral Home, 420 W Main St. A viewing will be held on October 9, 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Loomis Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on October 9, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Highland Memorial Gardens, 3329 W Semoran Blvd.
