Gerald “Shane” Smith passed away on February 10th 2026 at the age of 64. He was a faithful husband, devoted father, cherished brother and friend to many.

Shane leaves behind his wife Teri Smith; son Maverick (Hannah) Smith; sister Cindy Smith Crossen; nephew Chad (Katie) Crossen and family; and niece Chelsie (Jordan) Poffenberger. He is predeceased by his parents Gerald and Annette Smith.

Shane was born in Orlando, grew up in Central Florida and graduated from Apopka High School in 1980. He was a dedicated hard worker and spent over 40 years as a technician for local cable companies.

Spending time with the people he loved, allowed Shane to enjoy many shared interests. He liked hunting and fishing with his father, camping with his family, karate with Maverick, square dancing with Teri, working on cars with Cindy, and bowling with friends. In school he played football, baseball, and was on the wrestling team. Shane also enjoyed Nascar, driving his Camaro (really fast), and attending car shows. He spent many years coaching baseball and was especially proud when some of the boys went on to compete in the Little League World Series. Shane enjoyed collecting trading cards with Maverick, model cars, pressed pennies, and sports memorabilia. As a Scout Leader, he lived by the oath to help others at all times, and to keep physically, mentally, and morally strong. Shane always volunteered to help others without expecting a reward. He was dependable, caring and generous with his time.

Shane and Teri were high school sweethearts and had 42 years of marriage. His happiest moments were having a son and everyone knew Maverick was his ultimate joy. Shane loved his family and friends with his whole heart and was always finding ways to show he cared. With every outing, Shane would bring back gifts to share with the people around him. He had a soft heart for animals and treated people with kindness. There are no words to describe Shane’s love for his mom. His spirit and unforgettable memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. In keeping with his wishes, Shane will be laid to rest with his beloved parents and grandparents.

A service will be held at Lockhart Baptist Church on February 28th. Friends and Family are welcome to visit between 10 -11 am, with service starting at 11:00. There will be a Funeral Procession to Oakland Cemetery following the service.
