David Eric Peterson

David Peterson, a lifelong Orlando resident and devoted husband, father, grandfather, church member, and railroad enthusiast, passed away at his home on August 5, 2026. He was born in Orlando, Florida, on June 12, 1948, the only child of Alvin and Joyce "Tippy" Peterson.

David is survived by his wife, Dianne Peterson; his daughter, Erica Cernugel, her husband Joe, and granddaughter, Charlotte; sister-in-law, Susan Rhodes; niece, Melissa Huffstetler; nephew Robbie Putman; and cousin, Judy McElory.

David was an active member of Church on the Drive, formerly College Park Baptist Church for 60 years. Over the years, he faithfully served as a deacon and a beloved member of the tech team.

David spent much of his professional career in banking and retired from Bank of America in 2007. After retirement, he worked with the Mt. Dora Scenic Railroad, beginning as a conductor and working his way up to engineer. He also served as an engineer for the Island Lakes Railway. Trains were more than a hobby for David - they were a lifelong passion.

He was a charter member of the Florida East Coast Railway Society, a member of the Carolina Chapter of the Clinchfield National Railway Society, Winter Garden Railway society as well a member of many local model railroad clubs. He also loved photography and history and loved telling stories about the Orlando area.

David was well loved and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, church family, and fellow railroad enthusiasts.
