It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Richard Elliott, beloved brother, uncle, and friend, who departed this life on September 30, 2026, at the age of 79. David was born on April 10, 1947, in Homestead, Florida, and spent his later years residing in Apopka, Florida.
Dave dedicated his professional life to the field of television journalism, serving as an Assignment Editor at WESH TV News. His commitment to delivering timely and important news stories helped shape the media landscape in Central Florida.
Dave was a **beacon** in the WESH newsroom, bringing dedication, knowledge, and a passion for news to his role as assignment desk manager for 30 years. Whether he was working the evening, daytime, or early morning shift, Dave was someone his colleagues could always count on. He seemed to know everyone in the market—no matter the story or the industry, he knew whom to call, which crews to send, and how to get them on the scene first. His passion for broadcasting began in radio in Cocoa Beach, Florida, in the 1980s, before he transitioned to television at WESH-TV in Winter Park later that decade. His experience and connections were invaluable, but it was his presence in the newsroom that made him such a cherished colleague. Dave will be deeply missed by his WESH family and by the many people who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Dave is survived by his cherished brother, Rush (Peggy) Elliott ; his nephew, RJ Elliott; and his great-nephews, Brandon, Ben, and Russell Elliott. Additionally, he is remembered fondly by his great-great-nieces, Audrey and Rose Elliott, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and compassion.
In this time of remembrance, we honor David's significant contributions, his unwavering spirit, and the love he shared with those around him. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of his family and friends.
