Mrs. Chrystie Marie Jackson

December 29, 1915 — September 23, 2024

Chrystie Marie Jackson (née Nelson), age 108, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2024, in Apopka, Florida. Born on December 29, 1915, near Potter, Nebraska, Chrystie lived a remarkable life that spanned more than a century and touched countless lives through her dedication to education, family, and community.

Chrystie’s passion for teaching and caregiving began early. At just 17 years old, she completed her teacher training courses and started her career in a one-room schoolhouse in Nebraska. Her early experiences as an educator, wife, and private secretary built a legacy selfless dedication to serving and sharing with others.

As part of her devotion to knowledge, Chrystie played a pivotal role in supporting the work of her adored husband, Dr. M.L. Jackson. She was instrumental in pioneering, organizing, editing, and publishing his books, Soil Chemical Analysis 1 and Soil Chemical Analysis 2, which became influential resources for educators and scientists around the world. Her meticulous work ensured that this important contribution to soil science reached a global audience. She also hosted, supported, and nurtured countess graduate students and dignitaries from around the world.

Chrystie’s life was also deeply rooted in family. She was married to her beloved husband, Marion for 65 years. She was the cherished mother of Marje, Ginny (deceased), Stan, and Doug (deceased). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Dan, Tom, Dave, Angie, Andy, Becky, and Chris and her seven great-grandchildren.

Known for her generosity, kindness, and loving spirit, Chrystie brought warmth into every room she entered. She had a gift for entertaining and enjoyed hosting gatherings that brought people together in joy and fellowship. With a sharp mind and competitive spirit, she enjoyed cards and games with family and friends. She also baked a mean chocolate chip cookie, carrot cake, and oatmeal raison cookie that others didn’t need a special occasion to enjoy!

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 10, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Asbury Church located at 6101 University Avenue in Madison, Wisconsin. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Chrystie’s life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to one of her favorite charities; UW Soil and Environmental Science/M.L. Jackson Memorial Fund/Student Support, Asbury Church, Oakwood Village Foundation, and/or the American Society of Agronomy.
