Ms. Beverley Linnette Lewis

July 24, 1941 — April 26, 2025

Beverley Linnette Lewis was born on July 24, 1941, in Portland, Jamaica, West Indies. She was the only child of her mother, Louise Simpson-Rashford. As a young girl, she moved to Kingston to live with her grand-aunt, Esther Lewis, who became a key figure in her upbringing. Beverley spent most of her life in Rockfort, Kingston, before migrating to the United States in 1998.

Her life in the U.S. took her to several places-New York, Texas (where she lived the longest during her time abroad), New Jersey, and finally Florida, where she spent her final years.

Beverley was the proud mother of eleven children, seven of whom survive her, three daughters and four sons. She also left behind 20 grandchildren and over 24 great-grandchildren, some of whom she helped raise and care for.

She was well known for her cooking, especially her Jamaican sweet potato pudding and her many types of porridge, including cornmeal, banana, and plantain. She loved making these for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and it was one of the many ways she showed her care.

Beverley had a strong personality, a firecracker at times, bold and full of laughter. She was private, at times secretive, and didn't shy away from saying exactly what she thought. She loved to tell stories, and share the latest news with the nurses or family when she was in a chatty mood.

She enjoyed simple pleasures like playing Ludo, Bingo, and Dominoes. She had a love for fashion and wasn't afraid to be honest if she didn't like something. Her sense of humor, even when unintentional, made her memorable to everyone who knew her. She passed away peacefully with family nearby.

Beverley Linnette Lewis, 83, of Apopka, Florida passed away on April 26, 2025. Ms. Lewis was born on July 24, 1941 in Portland, Jamaicia. Ms. Lewis is survived by her children Claudette Clayton, Barbara Clarke, Carlton Page, Veronica Gonzales, Norman Lewis, Devon Lewis and Christopher Lewis; grandchildren Robert Henry, Latoya Kemper, Locher Henry, Nick Campbell, Ryan Henry, Kerisha Roberts, Twain McCalla, Rosheida Anglin, Nathaniel Lewis, Naemaro Lewis, Duran Marvin Lewis, Carlton Page, Cleopatra Page, Noryanna Lewis, Norsha Lewis, Norliya Lewis, Raul Lewis, Markland Lewis, Moesha Lewis and Natalie Lewis; as well as 24 great grandchildren and counting. She will be deeply missed.
