On the evening of June 5, 2026 Betty Waine of Apopka, FL, stepped into the glorious presence of God when the Lord Jesus called her home at the age of 88. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, but most importantly, a child of God. She lived a life marked by her love for God, love for her family, dedication to prayer, and obedience to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
She was born in Stilson, Georgia on February 18, 1938 to Lillie and Carrey Ward and was the tenth of eleven children. She grew up in Brooklet, GA, graduated from Southeast Bulloch High School, and went on to attend Armstrong State College in Savannah. She worked for an attorney while attending college, and then later worked for a bank.
Betty married William Walter Waine (Bill) on August 28, 1960 at Aldersgate Methodist Church in Savannah, and they were married for more than 65 years. She had one daughter, Cathy, and one grandson, Chase. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who demonstrated her faith and exemplified the power of prayer.
She was actively involved in volunteer work at schools, the church, in the community, and in local art organizations. She lived in multiple places throughout the South before moving to Longwood, FL in 1984. She and Bill then moved over to Apopka in 2019.
She was a member of First Methodist Church of Apopka for over 40 years, singing in choir, serving in the prayer ministry and evangelistic ministry, leading Bible studies and serving in the Feed My Sheep ministry. She was also involved for many years with the Benny Hinn Ministries and Orlando Christian Center. Later in her life, she went to work for Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) as the assistant to the station manager in Orlando, FL. During her 10 years with TBN she was blessed to meet and work with many different people serving the Lord through a variety of ministries.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Carrey Ward and Lillie Morris Ward; her siblings, Willard Ward, Minnie Lee Ward DeVoe, Dempsey Ward, Gladyce Ward Sowell, Johnny Ward, Herman Ward, Albert Ward, Bobbie Ward Bachman, Shirley Ward, and Bonnie Ward Holland; and her son-in-law Dennis Gwynn. She is survived by her husband, William Waine; her daughter, Cathy Waine Gwynn; her grandson, Chase Gwynn; and many nieces, nephews, and their children.
Her love for the Lord, hunger for His word, diligence in prayer, and generous spirit have been a witness to many.
“And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.” (Mark 4:20, KJV)
A Celebration of Life will be held at First Methodist Church, 201 S. Park Avenue, Apopka, 32703 on Monday, June 15th. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by the Celebration of Life service at 11:00 a.m.
