Audrey Esther Shorts

Audrey Esther Washington Shorts peacefully entered eternal rest on June 29, 2026 at the age of 87. Born January 12, 1939, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Maron Stephen Washington Sr. and Madeline Montgomery Washington, she lived a life defined by unwavering faith, quiet strength, compassionate service, and unconditional love. Whether caring for her family, serving her church, helping her community, or encouraging a friend, Audrey believed every act of kindness was an opportunity to glorify God.

She married Arthur Lee Shorts Sr. on July 30, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan. Together they raised five sons: Raymond, Arthur Lee Jr. ("Jim"/"Jr."), David Michael, Eric Steven, and Clifford Kelly ("Kelly") Shorts. In 1960 they moved to New York City.

Audrey first served with the New York City Department of Hospitals before beginning a distinguished 26- year career with the United States Postal Service. She held numerous positions, earned her 25- year USPS Service Pin, successfully advocated for extending the bus route for fellow postal employees, and created the winning name "JFKapers" for the JFK Air Mail Facility newspaper. After retirement she faithfully served at Greater Union First Baptist Church of Deland, Florida, as Church Secretary, choir member, missionary, Bible study participant, and volunteer.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur Lee Shorts Sr., and her beloved son, Eric Steven Shorts. She leaves to cherish her memory are her sons Raymond Shorts, Arthur Lee Shorts Jr., David Michael Shorts, and Clifford Kelly Shorts; many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives, church family, friends, neighbors, and former coworkers. 

Her legacy of faith, service, kindness, generosity, and love will continue to inspire generations. Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Lord.
