Antonio Secundino Rodriguez

Antonio Secundino Rodríguez Bazán was born on May 21, 1934, in the city of Cienfuegos, Las Villas, Cuba, at the corner of Santa Cruz and Lourdes streets. He was the son of Gerardo Rodríguez Bada and Isabel Bazán Luna. He grew up in a loving family alongside his dear siblings Micaela, Ana, and Paulino, who have all preceded him in rest.

From a young age, Secundino stood out for his hardworking spirit, humility, and generous heart. On June 1, 1958, he married the lovely Dulce Consuelo Gómez Lizardo, with whom he shared 67 years of love, faith, and adventure. Together, they built a home full of care, values, and deep devotion.

They raised their children Gerardo David and Isabel Amparo and lovingly welcomed their spouses into the family: Elizabeth, Gerardo’s wife, and Claudio, Isabel’s husband. All four stood by Secundino with love and dedication until the very end, offering support and care with admirable devotion.

Life blessed them with three precious grandchildren: Katherine, Jennice, and Adrian. Katherine brought Joey into the family, who filled their days with joy, and together they gave Secundino the most tender and special gift: his great-grandson Dylan. In his final years, Dylan became a constant light in his life. Just hours before his passing, he heard Dylan’s voice over the phone saying, “I love you, Abu”—words that filled his soul with deep peace and joy.

Secundino was a tireless servant. As an Adventist missionary, he dedicated his life to serving underprivileged youth—founding farms, teaching them to work, improve themselves, and trust in God, just as he had done with the help of mentors like Mr. Carr in Cuba. Together with Dulce, he lived and served in Cuba, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic, impacting the lives of hundreds of young people over more than 30 years.

After retiring, he fulfilled one of his greatest dreams: owning a cattle farm, which he named “Boufartti.” Later, he achieved his lifelong desire to live in a small house on a hill in Apopka, Florida. There, he enjoyed planting fruit trees, yucca, sugarcane, flowers—and living in peace. As he had promised Dulce, he always kept a flower garden in front of their home—a promise that lives on today thanks to Vladimir, who was like a faithful and loving son to him in his final years.

In his final days, he said with serenity: "I have peace like a river."

Secundino passed away with the firm hope of reuniting with his loved ones, trusting in the promise of a renewed body when “the trumpet shall sound.” His final wish was to walk again and plant a vineyard beside his beloved son Gerardo.

Today, we honor the life of a sincere, hardworking man with a wonderful sense of humor and a heart committed to serving others. His legacy lives on in every life he touched, in the love he planted, and in the faith he inspired.

Antonio Secundino Rodríguez Bazán nació el 21 de mayo de 1934 en la ciudad de Cienfuegos, Las Villas, Cuba, en la esquina de Santa Cruz y Lourdes. Fue hijo de Gerardo Rodríguez Bada e Isabel Bazán Luna. Creció en una familia llena de amor, junto a sus queridos hermanos Micaela, Ana y Paulino, quienes ya han partido al descanso.

Desde joven, Secundino se distinguió por su espíritu trabajador, su humildad y su corazón generoso. El 1.º de junio de 1958 se casó con la encantadora Dulce Consuelo Gómez Lizardo, con quien compartió 67 años de amor, fe y aventuras. Juntos construyeron un hogar lleno de cariño, valores y profunda devoción.

Criaron a sus hijos Gerardo David e Isabel Amparo, y recibieron con el mismo amor a sus compañeros de vida: Elizabeth, esposa de Gerardo, y Claudio, esposo de Isabel. Juntos, sus cuatro hijos los acompañaron con amor y entrega hasta el final de sus días, brindándoles apoyo y cuidado con admirable dedicación.

La vida les regaló tres nietos preciosos: Katherine, Jennice y Adrian. Katherine trajo a la familia a Joey, quien llenó sus días de alegría, y quienes le dieron el regalo más tierno y especial: su bisnieto Dylan. En sus últimos años, Dylan fue una luz constante en su vida. Pocas horas antes de partir, escuchó por teléfono la voz de su bisnieto diciéndole: “I love you, Abu”, palabras que llenaron su alma de paz y profundo gozo.

Secundino fue un servidor incansable. Como misionero adventista, dedicó su vida a servir a jóvenes de escasos recursos, fundando fincas, enseñándoles a trabajar, a superarse y a confiar en Dios, tal como él lo hizo, con la ayuda de mentores como el Sr. Carr en Cuba. Junto a Dulce, vivieron y trabajaron en Cuba, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Puerto Rico y República Dominicana, tocando la vida de cientos de jóvenes durante más de 30 años.

Tras su jubilación, cumplió uno de sus grandes sueños: tener su propia finca de ganado, llamada “Boufartti”. Más adelante, alcanzó su anhelo de vivir en una casita en la colina, en Apopka, Florida. Allí disfrutó sembrando árboles frutales, yuca, caña, flores… y momentos de tranquilidad. Como le prometió a Dulce, mantuvo siempre un jardín de flores al frente de su hogar, una promesa que hoy sigue viva gracias a Vladimir, quien fue como un hijo fiel y amoroso en sus últimos años.

En sus días finales, expresó: "Tengo paz como un río."

Secundino fue al descanso con la esperanza firme del reencuentro de con sus seres amados, confiando en la promesa de un cuerpo renovado cuando “suene la trompeta”. Su último deseo fue volver a caminar y plantar una viña junto a su amado hijo Gerardo.

Hoy honramos la vida de un hombre sincero, trabajador, con gran sentido del humor y fiel servidor de la humanidad. Su legado perdura en cada vida que tocó, en el amor que sembró, y en la fe que inspiró.

Nos despedimos con gratitud por su ejemplo, su entrega y su amor. Con la esperanza viva de que un día, nos volveremos a encontrar... junto al río de la vida.
