Alfred Kager, age 90, passed away on June 7, 2026. He was born on December 8, 1935, in Bamberg, Germany.
Alfred is survived by his loving wife of more than 65 years, Rosemarie Kager; his daughter, Sabine Kager Seifert (the late Keith Seifert), and their children: Alexander Badorrek (Jessica Badorrek), parents of Mathias, Nikolai, and Arcadia; Katrina Winters (Charles Winters), parents of Snow; Jessica Seifert; Keith Seifert Jr. (Kalee Seifert), parents of Weston and Sienna; and Allyson Seifert.
He is also survived by his son, Alfred Kager Jr. (Michele Kager), and their children: Candice Brown (Troy Brown), parents of Amy, Ailee, Indi, and Remy; Savanna Kager (Jon Jodhan); Madison Owen (Sam Owen), parents of Esmae; and Christian Kager.
He is further survived by his son, Andrew Kager, and his children: Andrew Kager Jr. (Maci Hatcher), parents of Maybelle and Milton; Alex Diaz; and Michael Diaz (Kim Diaz).
Alfred was the last surviving member of his generation of siblings. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Paula Kager; a brother-in-law, Simbert Kroesser (Mari); along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends, in the United States, Germany, Austria and Brazil.
In 1953, Alfred immigrated to Canada before returning to Germany for a short time. In the late 1950s, he settled in New York, where he worked in the construction industry. During the summer of 1960, he met Rosemarie, and they were married on November 12 of that year. Following a year in Bamberg, Germany, they returned to New York in 1963 with their first child. After several years living upstate, they moved to Florida in 1970 with their three children and established Kager's Nursery, which they owned and operated together until their retirement in 1985.
Alfred and Rosemarie enjoyed traveling and spent many years exploring the United States, visiting national parks, attending German cultural events, and spending time with family and friends. For more than 45 years, they made annual trips to Germany to visit relatives and friends. He also enjoyed cruises and vacations in Cancun and other destinations in Mexico. Although he enjoyed traveling, Alfred was happiest at home where he enjoyed raising cattle and sharing homegrown beef with his family. The annual family gathering to process and package the beef became a tradition that brought family members together year after year. He was known for baking traditional German bread for more than 65 years and for his homemade Nusstorte, both of which were enjoyed at many celebrations. Friends and family could also count on being offered "ein Schnaps" and good conversation whenever they visited.
A member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Apopka since 1971, Alfred was active in his parish and community. He was also a member of the German American Society of Central Florida since 1972, where he volunteered regularly and enjoyed sharing and celebrating his German heritage.
For Alfred, his family was most important. And, to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was simply "Opa." He will be remembered for his dedication to family, his strong work ethic, and his generosity. His legacy lives on through the traditions he passed down, the values he instilled, and the family he loved so deeply.
